listing of Summer
Programs for High School Students.
AwesomeMath Summer Program
- A three-week camp, held at the University of Texas at Dallas, designed to hone middle and high school students' mathematical problem-solving skills up to the Olympiad level.
Canada/USA
Mathcamp
- A five-week summer program for mathematically talented high school students. Camp location moves to a different university each year.
California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science (COSMOS)
- A residential academic experience for top high school students in mathematics and science. The COSMOS course clusters address topics not traditionally taught in high schools such as astronomy, aerospace engineering, biomedical sciences, computer science, wetlands ecology, ocean science, robotics, game theory, and more.
Hampshire College Summer Studies in Mathematics
- This six-week summer program for mathematically talented high school students includes workshops led by college and university professors, then "maxi-courses" and "mini-courses" for in-depth studies of particular problems and fields.
The Institute of Technology Center for Educational Programs (ITCEP)
- ITCEP administers the University of Minnesota Talented Youth Mathematics Program (UMTYMP), Saturday morning enrichment programs, and summer enrichment programs, which provide mathematically promising K-12 students with opportunities to learn and enjoy mathematics and introduce them to the role of mathematics in society through meeting and working with scientists, engineers, and mathematicians. Kids' University programs include MicroWorlds, Orienteering, Math in Motion, Geometric Art, Gear It Up, Numeric Patterns, Function Junction, Prove It! and Go Figure!
(MS)2 - Math and Science for Minority Students
- Preparing economically disadvantaged students from primarily urban areas for possible careers in engineering, science, medicine, computer technology and other technical fields. The program is open to African-American and Latino/a students from public schools in Atlanta, GA; Baltimore, MD; Boston, MA; Chicago, lL; Cleveland, OH; Fort Worth, TX; Lawrence, MA; Louisville, KY; Memphis, TN; New York, NY; and Washington, DC. Native American applicants from any location may apply.
MathPath
- MathPath offers middle school students who are extremely talented in mathematics the opportunity to learn and develop at a pace and to a depth that matches their abilities while also providing them the rich social and recreational experience of a residential summer camp.
Michigan Math and Science Scholars (MMSS)
- Two-week sessions of 15-student classes taught by University of Michigan professors as well as other outstanding instructors from around the world.
The Research Science Institute (RSI)
- Each summer, the Research Science Institute (RSI) runs a rigorous academic program that emphasizes advanced theory and research in mathematics, the sciences, and engineering. Students attend college-level classes taught by distinguished professors; nationally recognized teachers conduct classes designed to sharpen research skills. Students also complete hands-on research with top mentors at corporations, universities, and research organizations.
The Ross Program
- The Ohio State University Department of Mathematics offers an intensive summer experience designed to encourage motivated pre-college students to explore mathematics, with the goals of instructing them in the art of mathematical thinking and inspiring them to discover for themselves that abstract ideas are valuable and important.
SAMS: The Summer Academy for Mathematics + Science
- A rigorous six-week residential summer experience at Pittsburgh's Carnegie Mellon University for good students who have a strong interest in math and science and want to become excellent students. The program focuses on creating interest in technical disciplines and building academic and personal skills to better prepare you for the college application process.
SUMaC
- Stanford University Mathematics Camp - a residential summer camp for
mathematically talented high schoolers, especially students who are in
academic environments that do not offer the framework to excel in mathematics
beyond the usual school curriculum.
Summer Days Math and Science Camp for Girls
- A one week session for students planning to enter 5th - 10th grades in the fall. Campers have different backgrounds and level of skill, but all share a common enthusiasm for math and science. Working alongside women scientists and mathematicians local to Maryland's Chespeake Bay area, students will pursue projects in areas such as archeology, and banking.
Texas Mathworks Honors Summer Math Camp
- At its San Marcos campus, Texas State University hosts this intensive summer program for outstanding high school students who are excited about doing mathematics. The program provides room, board, books, supplies and a copy of Mathematica for each student to use during the school year.
Young Scholars Program in Discrete Mathematics
at Rutgers
- A four-week residential program for high-school students from across the United
States, designed to encourage talented students to consider careers in the
mathematical sciences. Discrete mathematics is a new and growing area of the
mathematical sciences with many applications on the cutting edge of modern research.
The Rutgers Young Scholars Program is intended to develop and enhance
problem-solving abilities in applying mathematical concepts to a wide range of problems.
