Brief Description: The Public Broadcasting System's Math Service. Combining computing and telecommunications technologies, public television offers interactive data services in addition to interactive video and voice services for education based on the mathematics standards set by the the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). Stated purpose:
For students, PBS MATHLINE will offer standards-based, high-quality instructional programming that will help them become math literate adults who can live and work successfully in a society and workplace increasingly shaped by math, science, and technology.

For teachers, PBS MATHLINE will offer professional development opportunities via distance learning courses, videoconferences, and electronic learning forums. Additionally, there will be an electronic math teacher resource center with e-mail, bulletin boards, discussion forums, and databases of resources for teaching mathematics.

For parents, there will be programs and products to help them understand that all children can and must learn school mathematics, as well as programs illustrating how they can help their children develop their mathematical abilities.

For education leaders, public policymakers, and the general public, there will be programs to inform them why a math literate population is essential to the social and economic well-being of all Americans, and how they can support students and teachers in pursuit of outstanding mathematics achievement for all students.
