Elementary: Discrete Math

Discrete mathematics, with problems involving algorithms, apportionment, combinatorics, graph theory, lattices, or trees, is more likely to form part of the middle or high school curriculum than the elementary curriculum, but the groundwork can be laid in grades 3-5 with simple problems that explore permutations and combinations (how many outfits can you put together?).

A few discrete math problems for elementary students are listed below.

To find relevant sites on the Web, browse and search Discrete Math in our Internet Mathematics Library; to find elementary sites, go to the bottom of the page, set the searcher for late elementary level (3-5), and press the Search button.
